C. Read about Berlioz’s music

D. Listen to his music on the recordings site (or other place).

E. Write a short paper comparing the music of Gabrieli and Berlioz:

The paper should incorporate
- your personal observations. Remember that your observations are not opinions. They relate what you see and hear, and especially how you respond to the music as art. I want to know that you have actually experienced the music and that you have engaged it in some way.
- commentary by other writers.
Comment on the following:
- How is the music/life of each composer similar to that of the other?
- How is it different?
- How do they compare to each other with regard to how their music fits into and effects the musical developments of the times in which they lived and composed?
The paper will be evaluated on both content and with respect to grammar, punctuation, clarity, coherence, and organization. Feedback on all these areas will be given within one week of the paper’s submittal. The rubric for grading this paper follows:
