Required Equipment and Proficiencies
In order to take this course, you should have regular access to the following:
-
a computer with high-speed internet access (DSL, cable or similar),
-
a DVD/CD player or a DVD/CD drive in the computer you use,
-
a Gatorlink ID and password. (For course management.)
You should also be computer literate. The course will require nothing beyond typical computer use: web browsing, word processing, electronic discussions that are very similar to email, a kind of “chat room,” and a session (at least) in 2nd Life. If any of these functions strike terror in your heart, you might reconsider the course. It is completely on line, and therefore these are the only ways we have for the course to function.
You do not need to be able to read music. (Some of the optional assignments require music reading ability, but you do not need to choose them if your reading ability makes them unsuitable for you.) You will, however, have to be able to listen to music and to conduct some research about music and to write about your observations and research.
